Portraits

Since I finished art school in 1972 I have been interested in the human image, how to depict the human experience and how portraits form a conversation about how we understand the world around us. Issues of identity, depicting the lives of women, how we read faces (perception), the communication of feeling, are some of the issues that interest me.  I am also interested in how I can convey something of the subject’s creative life through the art work- through the materiality and structure of the painting.  It has been important for me to celebrate the creative process.
