Meditations

These watercolour paintings grew out of my Marion Halligan Portrait project. This project was based on her book ‘The Fog Garden’ where the subject leaves grief and comes back into the world through her senses.

My paintings are a continuing a series of meditations based on the fruit from my garden.  They were also influenced by a most sensuous memory from childhood, that of Harvest thanksgiving, where a bountiful table of bread, vegetables, fruit earth and wine were displayed at harvest in the middle of our church.

I understand these paintings as a rediscovery of the senses and they are a form of self- portrait. An underlying theme was that of the forces of dissolution and forming.
